Undergraduates and postgraduates who are currently studying social science can apply for SSWEP.
If you are currently studying an undergraduate degree in a social science related subject, you can apply for this unique opportunity to develop your academic skills in a commercial environment, gain valuable experience for your CV, and be supported by a dedicated programme funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). You will be paid a weekly training allowance, which is tax and NI exempt, and you must be in your first, second or penultimate year of study.
If you are currently studying a PhD, or receive CASE or ESRC funding, you can apply to complete full time summer or part time flexible placement. Studying postgraduates can receive a tax and NI exempt weekly training allowance.

Are you an organisation with a placement opportunity?
A range of organisations can host a student placement through SSWEP.
Small and medium size businesses, local authorities, third sector organisations and social enterprises, are all eligible to apply for SSWEP. You can offer a range of projects to students through SSWEP, including, feasibility study, market research, competitor analysis, evaluation, marketing strategy, database development and much more.
From helping you to construct an effective project brief, matching students, administering the student training allowance from your contribution, to training and mentoring, we are on hand during the placement for support and advice. Upon completion of the placements, all student participants compete in a national event for the title of 'Social Science Workplace Experience Student of the Year'.
